Has the manufacturer selected ‘plantation’ teak?

Plantation teak is planted and cared for in government controlled and protected forests.
At East India Trading, we only select premium quality plantation teak so you know your furniture will last a lifetime and the plantations are sustainable well into the future.

Is the furniture machine made?

Normally, you would prefer hand made items, but not with a quality teak product that will be exposed to the elements for such a long time.
At East India Trading, we machine make all our furniture, ensuring uniform parts and joints that compliment the high grade of teak.

Which part of the teak tree does your furniture come from?

Did you know that teak trees are usually harvested after 35 years?
There are three distinct ‘quality’ sections, A, B and C. Lesser grade teak is often disguised with oiling or staining.
At East India Trading, our furniture is made from A-grade teak from the heart of the tree, where it is most dense and durable. A-grade teak can be sanded to a beautifully smooth surface which will not splinter, so your furniture can be left outdoors for decades.

Is your teak kiln-dried to 12-15% moisture content before manufacture?

When the tree is felled it has a moisture content of 40%. Teak, if left outside in the sun, will naturally dry to around 25% moisture content. When made into furniture and put into the elements it will dry out further, shrinking in the process then cracking and splitting.
At East India Trading, we kiln-dry the wood to a moisture content of 12-15%. We then machine the components and glue them together with the best quality waterproof epoxy available. This process minimises any shrinking or cracking.

Is your furniture craftsman designed?

You should insist on craftsman-designed furniture to ensure that the furniture is a joy to look at and use.
At East India Trading, all our pieces are created with both aesthetics and function in mind.

Are the fittings brass?

It doesn’t sound much, but its very important. Brass ensures the fittings will last as long as the teak they are securing.
At East India Trading, we have had over 30 years in the furniture business and understand the need to get the basics right. We insist on brass fittings to compliment the care we take in manufacture, ensuring your teak furniture will be maintenance-free for a very long time.

How long is your guarantee?

Many suppliers only guarantee furniture for 12 months.
At East India Trading, our Quality Assurers work on the factory floor. We confidently guarantee your furniture for 5 years, giving you peace of mind.
